Increase the range of your Wireless LAN by using 2 Fritz!Boxes
Quote from Fritz!Box 7270:
"WDS (Wireless Distribution System) can be used to increase the range of your WLAN radio network. For this you need another WLAN device, for instance a second FRITZ!Box. The WLAN device that establishes the Internet connection serves as the station. The other device passes the radio signals on further, and is thus called the WDS repeater."
How to do it!
1. Get 2 Fritz! Boxes
OK you don't really need to use another Fritz!Box but it helps!
The ones I am using here are FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 v2 as the 'master' and
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7140 as the 'slave'
2. Backup any configurations that are on these boxes!
If you have never used these boxes then just 'factory default' them, If you have used them you should backup the 'phonebook' first and then the full config to your computer.
3. Upgrade the devices to the latest firmware!
I upgraded my 2 boxes via the web interface, here are the results.
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 v2 Firmware-Version 54.05.05
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7140 Annex A Firmware-Version 39.04.67

5. Move the 'master' to one end of the proposed coverage area.
Connect it up to your Internet connection and make sure that all is OK.Setup the WLAN and test.
6. Move the 'slave' to the other end of the proposed coverage area.
Just power it up. Do not run a cable back to the 'master' unit, it does not need it.
Turn OFF Universal Plug&Play (UPnP) on the 'slave' device.
Setup the LAN Connection on the 'slave' unit as follows:
Internet Connection Via LAN1
Share existing Internet connection in the network (IP Client)
Configure the IP Address manually
192.168.178.2
255.255.255.0
192.168.178.1
192.168.178.1
192.168.178.1
